African American Idol pushes the envelop of political and social satire in this outrageous parody search show. "What would you say if given a chance to lead black Americans?" Imagine a world where every major subset of America gets to voice their opinions by presenting a "speech" on why they believe they should be the next black leader.

This make believe journey begins in Los Angeles where an open call audition was held. The contestants present a speech to a panel of 3 judges (Michael Colyar, Caroline Fogarty and Ian Clark), headed by Rufus Knox, a highly opinionated and socially misguided barbershop owner, Brandi, a Caucasian woman who believes in every sense that she is "black" and Herman Timmons a teen talk show host. They choose a group of finalists who go the finals held at the Apollo Theater on July 4th.

A strong feature of the piece is its ethnically diverse cast, which support this wacky notion with remarks coming from a redneck racist, Catholic Priest, Korean storeowner, an Indian man who believes he is the reincarnation of MLK and a host others.

Shekar Orr (James Lesure) is the former Host of long running show, "The Love Train" and can be seen in his upcoming cable series, Flap Jack Love.
